Disregard the requirement for submitting 2 types of CSS ; print and screen. We only covered the screen. Therefore, only concern yourself with submitting CSS for the computer screen. Also, for those of you who are having issues with your webspace provider (Depaul) and cant validate using a URL. Here is the link to validate with a file or cut&pasted text. |

Try Mediatemple if you are in the market for webspace. In their case you would want the Grid Services account for about $20/mo. If you want to just purchase a domain name, separate from space try network solutions. It will cost about $30 per year. From there you will point your URL to your space. The providers will have documentation on how to do this. |

If you are looking for things on the wiki, try using the search. It can be found in the upper right hand corner of each page. Alternatively, the site-map or the 'recent site activity' might also be of help in determining just where to put pages or for that matter find missing pages. Lastly, if comments or attachments functionality is missing from a page you can change that. Look in the upper right corner for a 'more actions' link. (You must not be in edit mode to see this link). Under the link there is 'page settings'. Using 'page settings', you can turn on the comments, attachments, or subpage links. |
NMS students— I am forwarding below information on two opportunities for WRD and NMS graduate students—a session on the development of academic conference proposals on April 28 from 6:30-8:00 in McGaw 314, and the WRD Graduate Student Conference (for MA in WRD and MA in NMS students); the deadline for proposals in 5/1/10 and the conference is on May 15th. Contact information is available below. Whether you are interested in attending an academic conference yourself or not, this is a great opportunity to meet and mix with students in your own program and in the MA in WRD, and to meet and talk with faculty who teach in both programs. I have indicated that we would be interested in attending. It clearly would take up the entire class time. There seem to be some confusion about due dates. I hope this statement adds clarity. All assignments are due Monday. This is so that everyone can comment and critique. If you feel, that some comments were helpful feel free to modify your assignments through till Wed. Wednesday is when I will review and issue grades. This way, you have the benefit of your classmates' posts. |
Project 1 should be posted to the wiki (on your group page) by Monday midnight. Each member of the team should review and keep statistics on 20 websites. Before you pick these websites, you might want to standardize on "good websites". Perhaps this link will assist in that regard. Data from team members should then be collected and rudimentary stats (mean, std, range) compiled across all team members for a specific website. Add this information to your project and include a discussion about your results as well as sources of error. Lastly, review other teams' project and results by Tuesday night. Add your critique to the comments section of their project page. You must comment on at least 2 other projects. You will present your project in class on Wed. In the presentation, be sure to include an overview of your rubric, your data results, and a synthesis of any relevant comments. |

Please note there is really only 1 opportunity for each member to present during the course. If all the weeks are filled, there are no more opportunities. I noted that this week there are only 2 people planned to present. And last week, no one gave a presentation. This means that 4 opportunities have passed of the available choices. For those of you who have not signed up, I suggest you do so immediately. |

Hi all and welcome to class. This will be a busy day as we get setup today. There are a number of items we need to accomplish in a short time. First of which is introductions. So while I make sure we are all in the right classroom and on the same page, think of what you want to share with the rest of the class. Our format will be something like this: Name, Current occupation, What you expect to get from this class, and Favorite TV character (and why) In addition to introductions, we wil also get everyone setup to use both Blackboard and this Wiki. We will discuss the expectations of the instructor and the students and review the plans for the semester. I hope to keep this first night relatively short, so lets get started. Tonight..

Hi everyone.. I hope we didn't get off to too much of a rocky start with all of the connectivity issues of last week. I am told, that most of the problems with the classroom laptops have been resolved. For everyone bringing in personal laptops, if possible come about 15min early, so we can resolve any potential connection issues before class. Lastly, just as a reminder, we have 2 TechCorner presentations scheduled for Wed. I noticed that both Nick and Dena have volunteered to go first.
