Project 1 Proposal

Description
I would like to create my first personal website. This will be the perfect source for marketing and showcasing my personal skills and talent, and also an attribute of my career advancement. A personal website will allow me to centralize my multimedia projects and create a digital portfolio. It will also give every site visitor the chance to "get to know my personality through design."

Technology Toolkit (for print and web collectively)

Photoshop - editing photo size, editing image
Output (pdf, printer)
My main focus in this project is to become more technologically savvy with HTML/CSS. I want to become consistent with these practices.
Notepad ++

Timeline for completion

Week 5 - Some examples of HTML coding to work on during class; CSS practice in class and "how to apply" ideas; understanding of saving HTML/CSS files; Idea of overall design (central image, font, color scheme)
Page ideas (About me, Resume, Portfolio, Blogs, Contact info, Education, Newsletter)

External links: Upper Iowa/DePaul University website; W.W. Grainger Inc site

Week 6 -Pages formatted and coded while continuing CSS editing; implemented color and some images

Week 7 - continued content formatting

Grading
I would like the grading rubric to contain consistency and aesthetic; does is confirm my purpose

Project 2 Proposal
For my project, I am going to create a portfolio website. In it, I plan to include pieces I have done in both work and school to showcase my various skill sets. While I’ve done non-athletics related projects, I plan to focus mostly on the work I have done through my grad assistant position with the Athletics Communications Department at DePaul University. My immediate career goal is to continue work within a similar office, so I plan to tailor my website to that.
Technology Toolkit
Against my better judgment, I plan to code my website myself using xhtml and css. I know and understand photoshop very well, so while I might create a better website with it aesthetically, I really wouldn’t be learning anything new. That being said, I plan to incorporate one page in the website that utilizes photoshop design. The reason for this is that I have never used the program to splice a design up to create a webpage, and feel it would be a good skill to have.

A personal website will allow me to centralize my multimedia projects and create a digital portfolio. It will also give every site visitor the chance to "get to know my personality through design."

Timeline
Week 5 – Map out site, sketch out wire frames, research other sites for ideas and inspiration

Week 6 – Have general layout coded. Get ALL content coded.

Week 7 – Continue coding. Concentrate on the CSS to make the content “pretty.” Check all links to make sure they work, and fix bugs.

Grading
Navigation – Is it intuitive? Does it all work?
HTML – Does it follow “strict” guidelines? Does it work across all different browsers?
CSS – Does it get the job done? Were good typography/color/font/etc. choices made? (This is the one I’m most nervous about since I have never used it before)
Photoshop Designed page – This is the one you can tear me apart on the design aspect. Is it balanced? Good color/layout/images/text/font/etc/etc choices made?

Project 2 Proposal

I have chosen to create a personal website to aid my hobby/side-career. I am a conservative model/actress on the side of school and my professional jobs. A good few months ago, I had hired someone to create a website to aid this venture yet that person forfeited the project. I have purchased my domain and hosting last fall and would really like to pursue this site on my own if my personal skills allow.

Essentially, I expect this site to have many pages: Intro, Bio, Portfolio, Blog, Contact Info., etc. (I understand that so many pages may be a lot of work especially for someone at my level, yet I would like to keep everything under a very consistent simple/modern design.

I am already pretty comfortable with PhotoShop, so I will attempt creating my website using CSS/HTML, Smultron, as well as all other necessary programs. I would like to give this site my all as well as learn the most I can along the way.

Timeline:

Week 5- Create content and layout of website

Week 6- Code content and layout

Week 7- Analyze and enhance/ edit any coding

In terms of the grading rubric, I would like the professor to take in consideration mostly the usability, content, and design of my website.
