High Fidelity: Music Website Critique

Team members:

Alexis

Brad

Jenee

Katie

Our initial approach is to examine popular music websites (Ex. Pitchfork) and determine if they are good or bad using the following subcategories.

* Usability (Navigation and Architecture)

* Aesthetically pleasing

* Overall layout Consistency

* Tone of Content

* Interactivity

We will first start with taking a look at the Pitchfork Media website to rate it according to our guidelines. After via email we will discuss our individual perspectives on it to have a jumping off point.

Over the course of the week, we will individually be analyzing websites and giving them a grade for each. A meaning excellent, D meaning of poor quality.

We will each be submitting to each other our collected data to better asses a timeframe in which to move forward from there. This collaborative effort will be done by Sunday evening.

4/14/10

Status Update:

Our group has submitted critiques of the Pitchfork website based on the set of subcategories that we laid out the week before. We will discuss this class period on which sites we will all be looking at and who will be putting together the final presentation. We also will be choosing a group name at this time.

i like that speed was one of your criteria - it could be the most well-designed site in the world, but nobody's going to sit for 5 minutes while the thing loads. also, this is a really good genre of sites aesthetically!

apologies if anyone couldn't access the rubric earlier, it looks like the embedded spreadsheet is only visible when signed into Google. PDFs are now attached for easier viewing.

I fancy myself a bit of a music geek so I found the subject matter and presentation intriguing. You guys used a very thorough/ in-depth grading scale and covered a diverse selection of music genres which kept things interesting. Good job!

Well done rubric and presentation. The categories (and descriptions) inside the major headings assist the rater with narrowing down the evaluation. Using a 4 point scale also helped to keep the scoring focused. I liked the overall comments (pro and cons) you provide for each website by rater. I would really like to have seen a graphic display of your data since it is a bit difficult to get an overview of the sites in a table. Good job.
