Group 1: Memo
If the Site Fits

We have chosen to study shoe websites for our rubric analysis. As consumers, websites are always trying to catch our eye, entice us to buy something, maybe buy something that we don’t even want. The online experience is very different from being physically in front of a store or in a mall. Usually you’re just on one site at a time and the company has our full attention, now what is the overall experience once on these sites? We will analyze “good” site design from “poor” site design by comparing online shoe websites.

Our Approach

We are interested in comparing similar sites and therefore chose the topic of online shoe sites (or stores with online shoe shopping).

Our Work

Each person will find 2 or 3 shoe sites that they are interested in critiquing. We will email the group with the sites and brief notes.

We will agree on a set of points that we will all critique the sites.

Once the sites and critique are set, then we will apply the critique to all of the sites and explain why and how we’ve found a good site compared to a poor site.

Our Schedule

For 4/14 find 2 or 3 shoe sites that you like or don’t like and take notes for the reason.

As a group we will agree on the criteria for judging the sites and apply them to the chosen sites.

For 4/21 we will all critique all of the sites and compile a consensus to our analysis and create final rubric.

I love that your group focused on shoe retailer's websites - and your group name is a nice touch! I'm impressed with the presentation of your wiki page and the grading system. The Yes (1), No (-1), N/A (0) approach is interesting to me because there's less room for subjectivity and personal preferences.

Ha, I love the slogan! You're list of criteria is perfect; in terms of having the "browser compatibility" & "availability of further information" it seems as if you have all facets covered. Great use of multi-media in the slideshow.

The simplicity of your rubric is great and probably makes the evaluation process as objective as possible. Judging from your uploaded power point, it seems you guys will have an interesting presentation tomorrow! I look forward to it.

I'm biased when it comes to the genre because I have a closet full of way more shoes than anyone should ever have, but I really liked the way you looked at the helpfulness of the sites. I never would have thought that Macy's would have an option for visually impaired customers. Good work on the presentation too!

I was suprise to not find Nike at place #1 ... knowing how much they spend on their multiple websites (plus many ads to drive visitors to their website).
However, your grading system helped me to understand that simplicity in design is important and more especially for e-commerce websites.
For the interactivity part, if you had Adidas in your list, they did a cool game with augmented reality (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRcognsyqNY&feature=player_embedded).

good idea! interesting genre that sort of tests what we were discussing in class - how some retailers purposefully don't make their websites user-friendly to get people to come to the actual store and spend more then they had planned. zappos is a great site for online ordering, but maybe i should check out shoes.com :)

Great presentation! I think your rubric is very comprehensive and covers all the important bases (on both broad and detailed components). I also very much like your grading system of +1/0/-1 -- it's very clean and direct, helps alleviate too much static or subjectivity in the review process. Nice job guys!

The presentation looks great, very comprehensive in both the explanation of your process and your results. As we went through the websites we looked at, I even felt restricted in the 1-4 scale that we used, I would have had a tough time making the decisions with your scale, it does leave little room for indecision. Overall, very interesting to see what sites you chose and why they were good or bad. As an avid shoe shopper, I will certainly be taking a closer look at those that made it in your top 5. Great job!

The presentation was great like Amy I am a true shoe lover and I will definitely be taking a closer look as the websites that received the best ranking from you guys. As for the grading system that you used I thought it was very interesting but to be honest I would have found it very difficult to only give have those 3 options for the grading scale. Other than that great job

Excellent job of presenting your results. The choice of values for the rubric made for a interesting scoring. A good thorough job on the project. A job very well done.

I really enjoyed your presentation! It was a very fresh and original approach which kept me interested throughout. I liked the simplicity of the scoring on the rubric - was concise and easy to follow. Great job!
