As you all already know my name is Monique Medina. NMS 520 is my first class in the graduate NMS program. My expected graduation will be sometime in 2013. I am very excited to learn about creating websites from scratch and all of the coding that is involved in its creation. Design is a large interest as well. My BA is in Journalism from Columbia College Chicago. I am not working in the journalism field however, I really enjoy my job as an Admissions Counselor at DePaul's College of Law. Journalism just wasn't exactly what I was looking for in the end. Media and communications have always been a huge interest for me and with the developments in new media, I am even more excited to be a part of this program. After I complete my studies I plan to work in the field as a New Media Specialist or Consultant. I would also love to teach workshops or college courses at local universities. I am very passionate about helping others and education them about new technology and how to use it to their benefit.
My favorite television character...it's between Jack from Will&Grace and Carol Burnett.
Question: When developing a website when do you actually use coding and what parts of the website does it create? I learned that you do indeed use coding when creating a site using HTML/CSS. You can also design your site in a design program like Photoshop or Indesign and place it on the web by using Dreamweaver and some minor coding. Knowing coding is very important and helpful to learn regardless of which way you choose to create your site. You can use coding to create boxes, headings, colors of backgrounds, pretty much everything on a site. It's amazing stuff!
